History of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association
In the year 1999, the Combat Vets Motorcycle Club first appeared on the internet. Up until the first part of 2001, many were led to believe it was a legitimate and established motorcycle organization. Through many turns of events it was found that CVMC was an internet scam used to milk money from Combat Veterans. In the early months of 2001, many members realized this scam and alerted others. Since we were all interested in issues facing Veterans, 45 members decided to form a Combat Veterans Association. Thus, the CVMA was born as a non-profit association in the beginning of May 2001. Brought together by our mutual love of motorcycle riding and our experience as Veterans having served in combat zones or theaters, we continue today with our main objective of helping Veterans. The original 45 members adopted a patch which identifies them as the founding fathers of CVMA.
In May of 2001, the CVMA adopted the CVMA/VFW patch. This was done with the VFW's approval as all CVMA members were or became VFW members and were entitled to wear the VFW patch. Over the next year and a half the CVMA was accepted across Post and Division levels within the VFW. Several meetings, conversations and letters over this period with the VFW at the National level seemed promising but never developed further. In December 2002, CVMA membership voted to take steps to become the association it wanted to be. With this decision, VFW membership was no longer required. The CVMA was then open to all Combat Veterans who ride a motorcycle.
On December 15, 2002, it was voted the CVMA would wear a combination of the CVMA background and the original skull logo as a one piece patch. New members were required to be a Combat Veteran and ride a motorcycle as a hobby. This patch is worn by Full Combat Members only.
